A Dedicated Literacy Specialist Who Gets Results

Hi! I'm Christi Bruinsma, the founder of Bright Path Literacy LLC. After 11 years as a classroom teacher, I saw firsthand how many students struggle to keep up with reading — and how transformative the right support can be.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement and an ELL Endorsement. I've completed 40 hours of Orton-Gillingham coursework and 20 hours of Science of Reading training, giving me a deep toolkit to meet every learner exactly where they are.

My approach is data-driven, research-backed, and completely personalized — because no two readers are the same. Sessions are available online and in-person in St. Augustine, Florida.

The Science Behind Every Lesson

Every method I use is grounded in the latest literacy research. No guessing — just proven results.

Structured Literacy

A systematic, explicit approach to teaching phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension — the building blocks of reading.

Orton-Gillingham Method

A multisensory, direct instruction approach especially effective for students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning combined.

Science of Reading

Instruction rooted in decades of cognitive science research on how the brain learns to read — the gold standard in modern literacy education.

Data-Driven Progress

I continuously assess and track each student's growth to ensure lessons are appropriately challenging and building momentum toward grade-level proficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents want to know before getting started.

Do you tutor English Language Learners (ELL students)?

Yes! I hold an official ELL Endorsement and am specifically trained to support English Language Learners. Whether your child is new to English or needs extra literacy support alongside language development, I have the tools and training to help them thrive.

Where are you located? Do you offer online tutoring?

I'm based in St. Augustine, Florida. Sessions are available both in-person in the St. Augustine area and online via video call — so families throughout Florida and beyond can work with me from home.

What grades do you work with?

I work with students in Grades 2 through 8. Whether your child is just starting to show signs of struggle or has fallen significantly behind grade level, every tutoring plan is tailored to meet them exactly where they are and move them forward with confidence.

What is Orton-Gillingham, and why does it matter?

Orton-Gillingham is a structured, multisensory approach to literacy instruction that is especially effective for students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. It uses visual, auditory, and hands-on techniques to teach phonics and reading in a systematic, explicit way. I've completed 40+ hours of Orton-Gillingham coursework — far beyond what most tutors offer.

How is Bright Path Literacy different from school support?

School support is typically delivered in group settings with limited one-on-one time. With me, every session is fully personalized to your child — no shared attention, no one-size-fits-all curriculum. I track progress continuously, adapt lessons in real time, and partner directly with families and teachers to reinforce skills beyond our sessions.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy and completely free. Fill out the contact form below, call, or email to schedule a free consultation. I'll learn about your child's needs, answer all your questions, and explain exactly how I can help — no commitment required.
